The method involves establishing an injection pressure by a pump. The injection pressure is used to inject the fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine through a nozzle (15) of the injection system. A reference-injection pressure is specified for the injection pressure. A correcting variable is determined for the injection system depending on the parameters that include reference-injection pressure, starting output, speed, fuel temperature, injection volume and previous occurrence of injection. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product that has program code for the execution of the steps of the method (2) a device that has a unit for the operation of an injection system.
