The ball (5) has a main symmetrical axis (10), at whose end a diametrical flat portions (12, 14) are provided in a ball surface, where the ball is designed as a truncated cone. A spherical rolling surface rolls on a bearing surface of a roller bearing during operation. A conical point (18, 19) is centrically pressed on projection surfaces (16, 17) and holds the ball in a position suitable for surface treatment, where the ball is held by a holding device via magnetic forces, during treating of the ball. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating roller bearing balls.
