The invention relates to a method and a system for controlling the access in buildings and restricted areas, as well as to a control device to be used therewith. According to the invention, the method consists in reading the digital fingerprint of a person, checking in a database the registration of said person, the days and time intervals when the access thereof is pemitted and actuation or non-actuation of a door opening mechanism, as the case may be, a strict record being kept of in and out passes of the registered persons. The system used for carrying out the claimed method comprises one or several independent or interconnected control devices (1), one or several computers (23), a door opening mechanism (2), a sensor (3) and an emergency button (4), a card reader being connectable to the device (1). The device (1) employed within the system comprises a key-board (6), a screen (8), a fingerprint reader (9), a main control electronic circuit consisting of a microcontroller (10), a serial memory (11), some interfaces (12, 13 and 14) for the connection to another device (1), to a computer or a computer network and a card reader, respectively, a 4-channel selector (16), a battery for the supply of a clock, an interface (18) for connecting the door opening mechanism (2), the sensor (3) and the emergency button (4), an acoustic warning device (19), a secondary electronic circuit (20) for processing and recognizing the fingerprints from the fingerprint reader (9) being serially connected to the main electronic circuit.
