Disclosed is the use of 1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes of formula (I), capable of transferring wild type p53 from an inactive and non-functional conformation into an active conformation, for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for use in treating medical compositions wherein wt p53 exists in an inactive state, in particular malignant melanoma and conditions involving undesired angiogenesis. Also disclosed are methods of in vivo and in vitro testing of compounds of the defined ability, wherein inactive wt p53 is monitored or detected.
