Gambions are in the form of plastic textiles or geotextiles (3, 4, 6) filled with a substrate (2). This consists of a geological material, e.g. clay, pebbles or rocks, and biological material, e.g. dead wood, bark, twigs and moss, and optionally clay beads. The structure allows invertebrates and aquatic insects to move around in the gambion. Independent claims are included for: (A) a method for producing the gambions by extruding molten plastic through concentric dies as endless filaments and feeding these over a guide ring into water where they cool, forming a tube which is rolled to produce entanglements; (B) a similar method in which the entanglements form spontaneously as the filaments are fed into the bath (C) a method for filling the gambions using a hopper with a sloping outlet pipe, over which the textile tube is clamped; and (D) a method for filling them horizontally using a screw feeder for the substrate. |
