The method involves determining a closing request, and initiating relative movements between components such as door e.g. sliding door (13), and locking mechanism (3), and between a body component (4) and the locking mechanism. The mechanism is deactivated and the door is closed, where the door is locked at the body component with the locking mechanism. The initiated movements of the components are translational relative motions, where the closing request is detected by using a sensor (5). An independent claim is also included for a device for moving a door of a motor vehicle.
