An image forming apparatus and a control method thereof is provided to effectively protect a mounting unit and to prevent occurrence of fire by using a relay for completely intercepting physical and electric connections. An image forming apparatus comprises a power supply unit(120), a first switching unit(130), a CPU(150), a second switching unit(170) and an intercepting circuit(180). The power supply unit supplies a power source to a heat generating unit. The first switching unit switches to selectively supply the power source of the power supply unit to the heat generating unit. The CPU controls the first switching unit so that a temperature of a mounting unit is within a predetermined mounting temperature. The second switching unit selectively opens a power supply line between the power supply unit and the heat generating unit. When the temperature of the mounting unit exceeds the predetermined mounting temperature, the intercepting circuit controls the second switching unit to open the power supply line. |
