CLAMPING APPARATUS FOR LASER WELDING

A clamping apparatus for laser welding is provided to minimize spring back of the workpieces after welding by clamping both steel sheet workpieces to be welded at the same pressing load, and guarantee laser welding quality by supplying shield gas to weldments of the workpieces through a supporting pipe. A clamping apparatus for laser welding comprises: a supporting pipe(1) disposed in parallel to the steel sheet workpieces along weldments of steel sheet workpieces(10) to be welded in a state that the supporting pipe is spaced from the steel sheet workpieces in a predetermined distance; a plurality of upper clampers(3) rotatably mounted on one side of the supporting pipe; a plurality of lower clampers(5) disposed to alternate with the respective upper clampers, and rotatably mounted on the supporting pipe; an operating cylinder(11) mounted on a working object correspondingly to the rear of the respective upper and lower clampers; a plurality of connecting links(15) of which one ends are hinged to both side faces of an end portion of an operating rod(13) of the operating cylinder, and of which the other ends are hinged to rear ends of the respective upper and lower clampers; a proximity sensor(17) mounted on a front end face of the operating rod of the operating cylinder to output the sensing signal to a controller by sensing one side of the supporting pipe when the operating cylinder moves forward; and a shield gas ejecting unit installed in the supporting pipe to eject shield gas supplied from a shield gas tank onto the weldments of the steel sheet workpieces to be welded.
