The method involves controlling a gate (TFG) of a free-wheel transistor (TF), so that the output voltage of the free-wheel transistor is absolutely smaller than the flux voltage of its intrinsic reverse diode, during the transition from the free-wheel phase to switching phase. The free-wheel transistor is included in an arrangement for the synchronized operation of an inductive load along with a switching transistor, a control device (TFANEU) and a driver unit for the free-wheel transistor.
