A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent image sticking by applying a voltage without generation of discharge among scan, sustain, and address electrodes, to respective electrodes during a recess period. A plasma display apparatus including first and second electrodes, and third electrodes formed to cross with the first and second electrodes, displays images by alternately driving a frame and a first recess period(T1) during a predetermined time. A frame group having plural frames and first recess periods is driven to correspond to image signals inputted from the outside. After the frame group, a second recess period(D1) longer than the first recess period is driven.
