An electronic device including a pointer control device is provided to control a pointer on a display unit by extracting movement of an object with an imaging device regardless of brightness around the object. An imaging unit(210) generates first image data by capturing an object. A sharpness controller(231) generates second image data by controlling sharpness of the first image data. An outline extractor(233) extracts an outline corresponding to one end of the object by generating a differential value between the first and second image data. A pointer location setting part(239) locates the pointer on coordinates, which correspond to the predetermined location included in the outline, in a display unit(240). A key input unit generates/outputs a key button selection command corresponding to key input of a user to a main controller. The main controller includes a pointer movement controller to perform a function corresponding to the key button selection command.
