A voice modulation apparatus and method in a karaoke system are provided to automatically modulate singing voice to a chorus level appropriate for a song reproduced from the karaoke system, by reading out automatic voice modulation information included in header information of the reproduced song. A voice modulation apparatus in a karaoke system comprises a play system(22), a voice modulator(28), a mixer(29), and a microprocessor(23). The play system reads out automatic voice modulation information stored in a recording medium. The voice modulator modulates a singing voice using the automatic voice modulation information. The mixer mixes the modulated voice with the song reproduced from the karaoke system. The microprocessor controls the voice modulation effect based on the automatic voice modulation information.
