A roll of absorbent paper for sanitary or domestic use and method of manufacturing. The absorbent paper roll comprises a continuous sheet rolled about an axis (XX) and forming helical coils provided on at least one of its sides, with a groove defining a closed contour about this axis. The width of the sheet forming the coils level with the groove is reduced by deformation and/or by compression parallel to the axis.
