An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving signals in a communication system using a block code are provided to easily generate shorter block codes by generating the block code using a division circuit. An apparatus for transmitting signals includes an encoder(111), a modulator(113), and a transmitter(115). The encoder receives information vector, encodes the received information vector based on a coding scheme, generates a codeword vector according to the encoding, and outputs the codeword vector to the modulator. The modulator modulates the codeword vector according to a modulation scheme into a modulation vector and outputs the modulation vector to the transmitter. The transmitter processes the modulation vector from the modulator and transmits the processed modulation vector to a receiver through an antenna(ANT).
