The UV-treatment device for the sterilization of drinking or industrial water or for the sterilization of waste water, comprises a housing interior (2) or treatment chamber (7) through which the water is flowed, a first and a second port for supplying and discharging the water from the treatment chamber respectively and a UV-emitter (5) arranged in the treatment chamber. A partial length of the treatment chamber is formed by an annular space that encloses the UV-emitter and a vertical axis (L) of the housing. The UV-emitter is transparent to UV-light. The first port is arranged and/or designed in such a manner that it leads tangentially into the annular space with respect to the vertical axis of the housing. The first port is present in a vertical direction above the second port. The outer-lying and inner-lying annular space are bordered by a wall of the housing and the UV-emitter respectively, which are formed rotation-symmetrically with respect to the vertical axis of the housing. The wall bordering the exterior and/or the interior of the annular space is shaped in the form of a circular cylinder. The second port leads tangentially into the annular space, with respect to its axis. The second port leads into the annular space, with its direction of axis parallel to coaxial with the vertical axis of the housing. The second port leads into the interior of the housing, in an axis direction tangentially oriented to a circle or circular cylinder to enclose the vertical axis of the housing. The first port and the second port are arranged with their axes in a common plane that is parallel to the vertical axis of the housing.
