A heat shrinkage polyester film, and a method for preparing the heat shrinkage polyester film are provided to prevent the generation of wrinkle, twisting or deformation after heat shrinkage. A heat shrinkage polyester film comprises terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate as a dicarboxylic acid component; and ethylene glycol and hydroxypivalic acid, or ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, hydroxypyvalic acid and 1,4-butanediol as a diol component, and has a heat shrinkage of 30% or more in at least one direction for 1 min in the hot wind of 100 deg.C. Preferably the content of hydroxypivalic acid is 2-40 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight dimethyl terephthalate, and the content of 1,4-butanediol is 1-30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight dimethyl terephthalate.
