A flat panel display having an ambient light sensing circuit is provided to improve visibility by automatically controlling a screen brightness based on the ambient brightness. An ambient light sensing circuit(100) includes first and second capacitors, a photo detector, and first and second switches. An ambient light controller(200) receives an analog output signal from the ambient light sensing circuit, calculates the ambient light, and converts the ambient light into a digital value. A timing controller(300) receives an output signal from the ambient light controller and outputs a control signal according to the current ambient light. A light emitting controller driver(700) receives an output signal from the timing controller and outputs a light emitting control signal corresponding to the current ambient brightness. An OLED(Organic Light Emitting Device) panel(500) receives the light emitting control signal from the light emitting controller driver and emits light at the brightness corresponding to the current ambient brightness.
