A reproducing apparatus and method, a recording/reproducing apparatus and method, and a recording apparatus and method are provided to improve freedom in setting the radius of a signal beam area in order to obtain an optimal recording format with ease. A reproducing apparatus capable of reproducing a hologram recording medium comprises a reference light irradiating unit, a signal readout unit, a sync detection unit, and an amplitude calculating unit. The reference light irradiating unit irradiates the reference light to the hologram recording medium. The signal readout unit obtains a readout signal by receiving the light that is diffracted by the data recorded on the hologram recording medium. The sync detection unit detects a target sync based on a plurality of sync locations selected by a reference of a location of target sync, so as to detect the sync location to be inserted in the readout signal. The amplitude calculating unit specifies the location of each recording pixel in the readout signal and calculates the amplitude of each pixel, based on each sync location detected by the sync detection unit.
