A facsimile apparatus and an operating method thereof are provided to equip plural modems in a phone circuit, thereby using plural PSTN lines selectively by using the phone circuit and transceiving voice and fax data simultaneously. A main unit(100) has plural modem units(120,130) and controls the plural modem units to be operated respectively. A line unit(200) has plural line connection units(210,220) which are respectively connected to plural PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) networks and the plural modem units. Plural data transmission units(310,320) connect the plural modem units and the plural line connection units and transmit voice data and fax data. The main unit includes a voice processing unit(140) and a control unit(110) additionally. The voice processing unit processes the voice data. The control unit determines whether the plural modem units are used if a modem use request signal is applied to the control unit.
