[Also in Divisions B7 and F1] A manually operated steering lock and keyoperated ignition switch are interlocked so that one cannot be operated unless the other is in inoperative condition and so that the steering lock is returned automatically from its operative position when the key is turned in the opposite direction to that required to close the ignition switch. The ignition switch 8, Fig. 3, is operated through a shaft 17 by a rotary pin tumbler type lock 16, the shaft 17 having a cut-away portion 22 co-operating with a similar cut-away 20 in the body of a push button plunger 13, Fig. 2, carrying a spring-loaded steering lock bolt 14 adapted when operated to engage recesses 11 in the steering column. The shaft 17 is shown in the normal inoperative position in Fig. 2 in which it is held by a torsion spring and from which it is rotated clockwise to operate the ignition and starter switches. When button 13 is depressed to operate the locking bolt 14, shaft 17 rotates anti-clockwise to permit the lip 30 to pass but then snaps back into recess 32 to hold the plunger and bolt in the locking position, in which shaft 17 is prevented by the top of recess 32 from being rotated clockwise to operate the ignition switch. Button 13 and bolt 14 are released by turning the key and shaft 17 slightly anti-clockwise, when spring 23 returns them to the inoperative position. In a modification, Fig. 7, the bolt 44 is operated by a spring-loaded plunger 63 enclosed by casing 42 and operated through aperture 43 by a tool. The shaft 48 of the key operated ignition switch normally engages in recess 47 of the plunger 63 and is cut away to co-operate with a second recess 47b into which it moves when the plunger 63 is moved to the left to locking position in which it is held by a pawl 53 which is released by rotating the shaft 48 anti-clockwise in the reverse direction to its normal direction.
