Valve assembly for flowable material

A transfer valve assembly for a product contained within a container having a threaded neck includes a tubular component 14 having threads 15 for engaging those of the container neck. The tubular component 14 is adapted to fit within a mounting sleeve 13, configured for connection to a receiver for the product. The tubular component 14 has a transverse wall 17 with ports 18 formed therein and a valve member 19 is pivoted to the tubular component 14 so as to be movable between port open and closed positions. A valve operating pin 34 projects internally of the sleeve 13 and a bayonet connection 27,29,30 is provided between the tubular component and the mounting sleeve, such that fitting the tubular component to the mounting sleeve using the bayonet connection initially engages the valve operating pin 34 and then relative rotation between the mounting sleeve and tubular component thereby moves the valve member 19 to the port open position.
