A method and an apparatus for driving a PDP(Plasma Display Panel) are provided to prevent low and excessive discharges by regulating rising time of the last sustain pulse. An apparatus for driving a PDP(100) having plural first and second electrodes and address electrodes includes a controller(200) and drivers(300,400,500). The controller divides one frame into plural sub-fields and drives the respective sub-fields according to reset, address, and sustain periods in a time division multiplexing scheme. The drivers supply sustain pulses to the first and second electrodes during sustain period. The rising time of a final sustain pulse, which is supplied during sustain period, is adjusted to be smaller for displaying lower gray-levels.
