A display device for removing an image sticking in an interface, and a method for controlling the same are provided to remove afterimage problems of the screen caused by screen ratio change of the video sources by displaying full white image in the region where the video source is not outputted and displaying white image with lower brightness than the full white image in the region where the video source is outputted. A display device(200) for removing an image sticking in an interface comprises a storage(280), a calculating part, and a controller(270). The storage discriminates a region where a video source is outputted and a region where the video source is not outputted. The calculating part counts the time when the two regions continue. The controller displays full white image in the region where the video source is not outputted and displays white image with lower brightness than the full white image in the region where the video source is outputted.
