The invention relates to a portable hand-held analytical device for analysis of a medically significant component of a sample, with a housing (2) having a loading opening (4) for receiving a replaceable drum cartridge (5) containing analytical consumables (8), whereby the housing (2) comprises on an outer side a dispensing opening (7) through which the consumables (8) can be pushed by means of the removal facility (45). The invention provides for the loading opening (14) to be closeable by means of a lid (13), which upon closing effects a linear motion of a pushing part (27) which moves the drum cartridge (5) to a working position, in which it can be rotated about its geometric longitudinal axis.
