A thermal printer is provided to perform clear print on a thermal sensitive paper rolled between a thermal head and a platen roller with enough compressing force. A thermal printer includes a case main body(2), a case(4), a thermal head(6), a platen roller(7), a slider(8), and a coil spring(9). The case main body is a box in shape, is open upward, and includes a paper storage(2c). A roll-type thermal sensitive paper(15) is contained in the paper storage. The case is coupled to the case main body and includes a cover member(3). The cover member is mounted on the case main body and is openable with a shaft(5). The thermal head is directly fixed to a wall(2b) of the case main body. The platen roller is mounted adjacent to a moving part of the cover member, faces a printing surface of the thermal head when the cover member is closed, and is rotatably supported by a bearing. The slider is mounted adjacent to the moving part of the cover member and linearly moves in a radius direction of the moving motion of the cover member. The coil spring is arranged between the slider and the cover member and compresses the slider for applying an enough compressing force to the platen roller for clear print.
