A secondary battery is provided to be safe without causing trouble for continuous charge characteristics even when a charge voltage is set to exceed 4.25 V and without causing breakage upon overcharge. A secondary battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed therebetween, and an electrolytic solution. When a pair of positive and negative electrodes are completely charged, an open-circuit voltage is in the range of 4.25-6.00 V. The electrolytic solution comprises at least one aromatic compound represented by the following formula 1, wherein R1-R10 independently are hydrogen, a halogen group, an alkyl group, a halogenated alkyl group, an aryl group, or a halogenated aryl group. |
