A universal input device is provided to form a contact sensing part and a ring-shaped casing effectively for simply converting a mode or selecting a menu by contact of the contact sensing part. A universal input device includes a motion sensing part(10) for sensing motion of an object, a contact sensing part(20) for sensing contact of the object, and a communication part(30) for transmitting data to an external host unit. A control unit(50) generates location data corresponding to the sensed motion and control data corresponding to the sensed contact, and controls the communication part for transmitting the generated location data and control data to the external host unit. A casing receives the contact sensing part, the communication part, a power supply part(40) and the control part, and is formed in the shape of ring for the insertion of the object in contact. The contact sensing part has a plurality of joints to be folded correspondingly to the ring shape.
