A system for protecting the copyright of digital contents and a method thereof are provided to perform the authentication of the digital contents in a digital contents server, not in a portable terminal, thereby being easy to authenticate the digital contents. A digital contents server(100) provides digital contents including the address of a digital contents server, performs authentication for the digital contents, and generates the execution information result of the digital contents(S305,S307). A portable terminal(200) receives the execution information result of the digital contents generated from the digital contents server and executes the digital contents in response to the execution information result(S309,S311).
