A modem for a mobile terminal is provided to perform parallel data I/O(Input/Output) through a memory having two data I/O ports and a plurality of buses, thereby largely improving a data processing speed. A data transceiver(140) transceives data with a mobile base station by a first control signal. A PDU(Packet Data Unit) processor(120) stores first data, which is generated by converting the data, to a shared memory(110) or transfers second data, which is generated by converting the data stored in the memory, to the data transceiver in response to a second control signal. A PDU processing controller(130) generates the first and second control signal corresponding to data processing information. An SDU(Service Data Unit) processor(150) controls operation of the PDU processing controller based on a service data unit received from an application software layer. A first bus(180) is connected to the PDU processor, the data transceiver, and the memory. A second bus(170) is connected to the PDU processor, the data transceiver, and the PDU processing controller. A third bus is connected to the SDU controller, the PDU processing controller, and the memory.
