The armchair has a backrest (4) placed at the level of rear end (2.1) of a seat (2), and a footrest (6) moved from a retractable position in which the footrest is placed below the seat to a service position. The passage of the foot rest from the retractable position to the service position is performed by translation of the foot rest along a direction oriented from the end of the seat towards a front end (2.2) of the seat, and by a rotation around an axis (Y1) perpendicular to a translation direction. The foot-rest in retractable position is placed parallel to the seat. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for deploying a footrest equipping an armchair for motor vehicle (2) a method for retracting a footrest equipping an armchair for motor vehicle.
