摘要 #CMT# #/CMT# In a device for crimping together metal sheet pieces, where the pieces are held with the edge of the first piece (1) enclosed by a right-angled flange (2a) of the second piece (2) and an adjusting screw folds the flange over the edge, a robotic holding arm carries two piece holding supports (6, 7). The robot displaces the pieces so that the edge and flange of the second piece rest against a lower adjusting screw and face an upper adjusting screw respectively. #CMT# : #/CMT# In a device for crimping together two metal sheet pieces (1, 2), the pieces are held against each other with the peripheral edge of the first piece (1) enclosed by a peripheral flange (2a) (bent at a right angle) of the second piece (2) and an adjusting screw is applied to the flange to fold it over the edge. The novel features are that (a) the end of a robotic holding arm carries two holding supports (6, 7), between which the pieces are held in position as above; (b) a lower adjusting screw with a horizontal axis and an upper adjusting screw with an axis pivotable between vertical and horizontal positions are provided; and (c) the robot displaces the pieces so that peripheral edge of the second piece rests against the lower adjusting screw and the peripheral flange faces the upper screw. An independent claim is included for a corresponding crimping method using the apparatus, in which (i) the second piece (2) is placed on the lower support (7), (ii) the first piece (1) is placed on the second piece with the edge and flange located as above, (iii) the upper support (6) is placed above the lower support and (iv) the pieces are displaced so that the edge and flange are placed as above relative to the adjusting screws. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Specifically the first and second pieces are the bodywork and external panel of a flap for a vehicle (claimed). The apparatus is generally used for crimping together the bodywork and external panel of an vehicle flap (i.e. door, tailgate or boot cover) in an automobile assembly plant. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The system is easily adapted to the crimping of different pieces (e.g. bodywork and panels for different flaps or for different automobile models), by simply changing the holding supports. The holding supports have a light, simple construction (typically being formed from rods or tubes of steel or aluminum alloy), and require little storage space.
