A gripper for a tufting machine is provided to allow switching from cut piles to loop piles, and produce a carpet having rows of loop pile threads or cut pile threads of a long lifetime. A gripper body(4) has a cut edge inserter-receiving space(39) and a slider-receiving space, which is separated from the cutting edge inserter-receiving space. A cut edge inserter is arranged in the cut edge inserter-receiving space. A slider is arranged in the slider-receiving space. The slider-receiving space is separated from the cut edge inserter-receiving space by a strip of the gripper body. The gripper body has two flat sides(9, 10) and two narrow sides(11, 12) for defining a rectangular cross-section. |
