There are provided display data for giving a display area of child screen according to the video content of a parent screen for the display area of the child screen when displaying a child screen on a parent screen by picture-in-picture reproduction, a video display device for displaying a child screen on an appropriate display position by using the display data, and others. The video display device (1) includes decoding units (101, 103) for decoding two video data, a synthesis unit (105) for combining the decoded video for output, an input unit (108) for instructing display/non-display of the child screen, a processing control unit (109) for controlling the processing of the decoding units (101, 103) by receiving the instruction, and a position specification unit (110) for specifying the display position of the child screen on the synthesis unit (105) by receiving the instruction, the display data, and the time information. The position specification unit (110) decides the display position of the child screen video according to the information on the display-enabled time of the child screen vide contained in the display data and the information indicating a display area or a display-enabled area of each time. |
