A monoclonal antibody (MAb) that is (a) antibody 16D10, or its fragment or derivative or (b) an antibody that binds to essentially the same epitopes as 16D10. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) in vitro method for detecting a subject with pancreatic disease by contacting a patient sample with MAb and detecting formation of immune complexes; (2) kit for detecting pancreatic diseases comprising MAb and optionally reagents for detecting immune complexes formed; (3) in vitro method for detecting a subject with pancreatic disease by treating a urine sample with an antibody (Ab) that recognizes a glycopeptide (GP) containing 1-40 repeats of the sequence Asp-Ser-X-Ala-Pro-Pro-Val-Pro-Pro-Thr-X (SEQ ID NO:14) where each X = Gly or Glu, glycosylated by the enzymes Core2 beta (1-6) N-acetylglucosaminyl transferase (C2GnT), fucosyl transferase (FUT3), with alpha (1-3) and alpha (1-4) transferase activity, or FUT7, withalpha (1-3) activity, then detecting formation of immune complexes; (4) pharmaceutical or vaccinating compositions that contain GP; (5) pharmaceutical compositions that contain Ab; and (6) recombinant, isolated or purified GP.
