PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DVD player with built-in HD which is improved in user's convenience by shortening a time required for dubbing data from a DVD to a hard disk. SOLUTION: When a dubbing key is depressed, an MPU 105 determines whether a recording format of data recorded in a DVD 100 is a DVD-VIDEO format and high-speed dubbing is selected or not. When the DVD-VIDEO format is determined and high-speed dubbing is selected, the MPU 105 dubbs data in the DVD 100 to a first storage area 121A in the DVD-VIDEO format as it is (S5). When a recording time of the DVD 100 is ten hours, dubbing with conversion of a recording format of data requires 10 hours. However, dubbing in S5 requires no conversion of the recording format.
