PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device obtaining necessary voltage at start-up and enabled to control at preheating. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a DC/AC conversion circuit, supplying an AC voltage to either ends of a first circuit part and a second circuit part connected in parallel, by converting a DC voltage from a power source part into an AC voltage; a second secondary-side coil, structured at the first circuit part constituting a transformer together with a second primary-side coil with a more number of turns than the second primary-side coil; a second capacitor structured at the first circuit, on which voltage generated at the second secondary-side coil is impressed via a charging channel; and a discharge gap, structured at the first circuit part for supplying the terminal voltage of the second capacitor to the first primary-side coil via the charging channel by being made conducting by the terminal voltage of the second capacitor reaching the discharge gap voltage.
