PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction unit capable of washing the inside of a head cap on which a functional liquid is fixedly deposited. SOLUTION: The suction unit is equipped with a head cap 104 for sealing the nozzle surface 31 of an ink jet type functional liquid droplet discharge head 17, the suction means 102 communicating with the head cap 104 and performing cleaning operation for sucking a functional liquid from a plurality of nozzles in the functional liquid droplet discharge head 17 through the head cap 104 for sealing the nozzle surface 31 and a supply means 103 for supplying a washing liquid into the head cap 104.
