PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a punch press which minimizes unnecessary tool preparation by preparing a program for establishing a relationship between kinds of tools contained in a turret or a tool magazine for the punch press. SOLUTION: Each punch and die of the punch press are respectively provided with an identification medium for identifying each tool. The punch press comprises a punch identification medium reader for reading out a punch identification information from a punch identification medium attached to the punch; a die identification medium reader for reading out a die identification information from a die identification medium attached to the die; and a punch/die identification information feedback means for feeding a punch/die identification information, representing a pair of the punch identification information from the punch identification medium reader and the die identification information from the die identification medium reader, to an automatic programming apparatus for developing a numerical control program for the punch press.
