The coffee or espresso machine (10) has a cleaning mechanism (18) integrated to clean a multi-purpose cup (21). The cleaning mechanism has a cleaning chamber for receiving a number of cups. The coffee or espresso machine and cleaning mechanism are provided with common water supply (42) and common current supply. The coffee or espresso machine and cleaning mechanism are also provided with common hot water source and common drain portion. A transport system (48) is provided to take the clean cups from the cleaning mechanism. An independent claim is also included for the cup cleaning process performed in the coffee or espresso machine.
