<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which displays an image by using a horizontal electric field and, moreover, performs reflection display and transmission display without reversing brightness and darkness. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with: a liquid crystal layer 13 which is enclosed between substrates such that liquid crystal molecules are aligned in parallel to substrate surfaces; reflection control electrodes 14, 15 of forming a reflection display part 100a in which the horizontal electric field is formed on the inner surface of one side substrate 12 and light made incident from the observation side is reflected by a reflection film 28 and is emitted to the observation side; and transmission control electrodes 16, 17 of constituting a transmission display part 100b in which a horizontal electric field is formed and light made incident from the opposite side is emitted to the observation side; wherein one pixel 100 is constituted with the transmission display part and the reflection display part; a voltage for reflected luminance gradation corresponding to a display data in respective voltages corresponding to respective luminance gradations obtained by dividing a range of luminance change of the reflection display part is applied between the reflection control electrodes, and a voltage for transmitted luminance gradation corresponding to the display data in respective voltages for transmitted brightness gradation corresponding to respective luminance gradations obtained by dividing a range of luminance change of the transmission display part is applied between the transmission control electrodes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
