PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device achieving tracking error balance adjustment with high precision even in the case of an optical disk such as a DVD-RAM. SOLUTION: During spin-up, TE signals in a plus direction and TE signals in a minus direction are measured in one rotation of the DVD-RAM twice or more the number of CAPAs of the DVD-RAM. Because of this measurement frequency, a half or more of measured TE signals is TE signals not including CAPAs. It is determined whether amplitudes of measured TE signals in the plus direction and/or amplitudes of measured TE signals in the minus direction are equal to or lower than a prescribed value or not. When it is determined that the amplitudes are equal to or lower than the prescribed value, a plurality of TE signals of which the amplitudes are equal to or lower than the prescribed value are eliminated as unnecessary TE signals. Thereafter, an average of TE signals with no unnecessary TE signals is calculated. The calculated average of TE signals is set as an offset value of balance adjustment of TE signals.
