PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator that has not only improved impregnation properties of an electrolyte and ion mobility as in a conventional separator containing cellulose but also mechanical strength and oxidation-resistant reducing properties. SOLUTION: In the separator for electric double layer capacitors made of a porous sheet, the porous sheet has a high-density layer with approximately 20-50% porosity and a low-density layer with approximately 50-80% porosity.
