PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin conversion element that is suitable for film-thinning while being capable of efficiently extracting a spin-polarized electron. SOLUTION: The spin conversion element is successively provided with a high-coercitivity magnetic layer 2 having magnetization fixed in one direction, an insulating layer 3, and a non-magnetic conductive layer 4 having each conduction electron that is ferromagnetically coupled with the high-coercitivity magnetic layer 2 via the insulating layer 3. By the ferromagnetic coupling in-between the high-coercitivity magnetic layer 2, each conduction electron, having electron spins S11, S12, and S13 in an arbitrary direction that pass through the conductive layer 4, is respectively converted into each spin-polarized electron having electron spins S21, S22, and S23 in a direction parallel to a magnetization J2 direction. Accordingly, if a potential difference is provided in both ends of the conductive layer 4, it is possible to efficiently obtain a spin-polarized current. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
