The method involves providing two subscribers with secret keys, which are known only to respective subscriber, and a public key. An inquiry transmitted by one subscriber with respect to validity of a certificate (18) is authenticated and associated with the subscriber. A response of the other subscriber associated with the inquiry is calculated. The calculated response and another certificate (19) associated with the latter subscriber are encrypted in a randomized manner. The response is decrypted and authenticated with respect to validity of the latter certificate.
