<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of performing a condition control process matching a use mode selected by a user, in an image forming apparatus that selectively performs color image formation operation, or a monochrome image forming operation in a control method for the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: When a power source is turned on, the apparatus requests a user to select the performing or non-performing of the condition control for all colors, except for the color corresponding to a monochrome image, after the condition control processing for the color corresponding to the monochrome color.
