<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display output device equipped with functions of receiving resolution information from an image display device to display an image and adjusting resolution during output of a video signal based upon the received information and capable of the display output securely selecting suitable resolution. <P>SOLUTION: The display output device includes a video signal output unit 2, a resolution adjusting unit 3, an OSD composing unit 4, an HDMI transmitting and receiving unit 6, a control unit 7, and a storage unit 8. Display unit resolution information 105 is acquired by communicating with a display unit 102, and stored in the storage unit 8. When the display unit resolution information 105 does not include information of a resolution of 720×480 defined by HDMI at this time, the resolution is added to the display unit resolution information 105, which is stored in the storage unit 8. The control unit 7 computes suitable resolution information 82 by collation with device resolution information 81 as information on a resolution that a digital broadcast videorecorder 1 can output.
