PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray generator which has a more increased generation quantity of characteristic X-rays than before in the X-ray generator generating characteristic X-rays using a primary and secondary targets. SOLUTION: The secondary target 15 has spaces in which its material is not filled along the direction of emitting characteristic X-rays. That is, the secondary target 15 is constituted of a plurality of partial secondary targets 151 to 157. Thereby, the generation quantity of characteristic X-rays can be increased more than before by making continuous X-rays from the primary target 11 reach a wide region in the secondary target 15.
