<p>A method for the separation and extraction of cobalt from a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to accomplish selective dissolution of cobalt while avoiding a need for post-treatment, to obtain a high recovery ratio of at least 96%, and to prevent environmental pollution. A method for the separation and extraction of cobalt from a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprises a step of carrying out selective dissolution of cobalt from the cathode active material of a waste lithium battery by using aqueous ammonia as an eluant, and by adding hydrazine hydrate as a reducing agent. Aqueous ammonia is added in an amount of 5-20 ml of concentrated aqueous ammonia(28% aqueous ammonia based on NH3) per gram of the cathode active material. Hydrazine hydrate is added in an amount of 0.1-0.5 ml per gram of the cathode active material.</p> |
