PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which prevents brightness slope and suppresses fall-off of image quality, and to provide a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal display panel LDP; a surface light source device BL for illuminating the liquid crystal display panel LDP; driving parts SD, GD, LD for driving the liquid crystal display panel LDP and the surface light source device BL; and a controller CNT for controlling the driving parts SD, GD, LD, wherein the liquid crystal display panel LDP includes a plurality of display pixels PXs; the surface light source device BL includes two or more kinds of light sources LS which sequentially light up during one frame period; the controller CNT has a means for controlling the driving parts SD, GD, LD so that video signal write-in and reset signal write-in performed after the video signal write-in are carried out in a period while any one of the two or more kinds of light sources lights up during one frame period; the video signal write-in and the reset signal write-in are of the same polarity; and between frame periods, the potential polarity of the plurality of display pixels are inverted.
