PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the luminance unevenness in an image to be projected which is projected by a liquid crystal projector. SOLUTION: For example, when a cell gap is 2.4μm, a white hatching range (50-50), showing the highest transmissivity overlaps a center region isotropically, in a plane defined by a vertical incident angle and a horizontal incident angle, i.e., within the same angle range in the directions of the vertical incident angle and horizontal incident angle so that the circumference of the center of the plane is included, as shown by the thick lines in Fig. 7.
